TD Timmins Tree Plant

TD Timmins Second Annual Tree Plant!

Over 100 Seedlings Planted
White spruce
White pine and
Red pine

A great day for tree planting, great for the trees anyway. A little cool and a little rain.
Great for tree planting too. The crew went right to work and soon we were taking off our extra shirts.

This year we planted in South Porcupine.
It is a great crew from the TD that comes out help establish trees in the Timmins Area.
Tree seedlings are planted and then to protect them a little and keep the grass competition down mulch is spread around the base. Mulch is placed around the base, the thickest is at the dip-line of the tree. At the stem of the tree the mulch is minimal. This should keep the grass down for one year, reducing the competition for nutrients. With all the grass it may take a couple of years for them to fully establish.

Tree seedlings are planted on Mattagami Region Conservation Authority (MRCA) Lands as part of the overall plan of the continuous effort to place trees in areas that will benefit from them. These trees will be great habitat when their branches intertwine in 5 or 6 years!
